The stone comes first
We buy the stone before we design the setting, never the other way round. A design drawn to a stone that does not exist yet is a design you will end up compromising.
The craft
Four steps, none of them subcontracted.

Drawn by hand, then modelled
Pencil first, because a pencil is faster at being wrong. The CAD model comes after the shape is settled, and it exists to be printed and worn in wax before anything is cast.

Cast in the workshop
Lost wax casting, upstairs, by two people who have done it for a combined forty years. Nothing is sent out, which is why a repair takes days rather than months.

Set, finished, and worn for a week
Every piece is worn for a week before it goes out — usually by whoever made it. A ring that catches on a jumper is a ring that goes back to the bench.

Set a stone we have doubts about
If a stone has an inclusion in a place that will crack under setting, we will say so and refuse the job rather than take your money and hope.
Rush a casting
A hurried cast has porosity you cannot see until it is polished. We will move the date rather than deliver one.
Pretend a repair is a restoration
Some pieces should be left as they are. We will tell you when the honest answer is to do nothing.
Come and watch, if you like.
The workshop is upstairs and the door is usually open. Thursday afternoons are casting days, which are the interesting ones.
